stacymariekeibler.com's Exclusive Column Columnist: Britney Email: Britney@stacymariekeibler.com Welcome to this week's edition of SMK.com column! First off, I apologize for the column I *didn't* write last week, but the holiday weekend really threw me off schedule. I hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July! WWE went on a releasing binge last week, with the number of wrestling employees fired totaling 18 in just two days. Though the pink slip distrubution has come to a stop, the internet is still buzzing with rumors that there are more cuts to come. Among the 18 released employees were WWE divas Dawn Marie, Jackie Gayda, and most recently, Joy Giovanni. Though all the divas released were from Smackdown, the cuts have caused a sharp fear among all the women's locker room. My concern for this column, of course, is what this means for Stacy. Loyal Stacy fans should fear not - the chances of Stacy being released are slightly less slim as the chances of WWE Champion John Cena losing his job. Along with Trish Stratus, Lita, and Torrie Wilson, Stacy is one of the WWE's golden girls. Job security, throughout the duration of roster cuts at least, should not be an issue for our favorite Baltimore native. However, with the dwindling state of the women's division, one has to wonder what the future holds for the current divas. It's obvious that WWE is no longer interested in women's wrestling. There are only two legitimate competitors left, and Trish and Victoria are not enough to carry the women in between (those who have been in the ring and trained, but are not full time wrestlers) such as Torrie Wilson, Melina Perez, or Stacy. And with Diva Search 2 underway, it doesn't seem like management will be going back to women's wrestling for some time. Since the disappearance of Women's Champion Trish Stratus due to a back injury, the divas have practically disappeared from television. With the exception of Lita on Raw and Melina on Smackdown, no divas have had substantial television time in recent memory. Even with Stacy's new position as the superhero sidekick for Rosey and Hurricane, she has not seen more than five minutes TV time on Raw in months. I've already expressed my disinterest in the current angle Stacy is in. I just think there is so much more they could do with her. Pair someone up with the Heart Throbs to spice up their feud with Hurricane and Rosey. Even if it were someone like Maria, who doesn't have the skill to have a wrestling feud with Stacy, there would at least be a little added drama to a feud that's gone bland. Have her manage Cena, and not just to make the female fans happy. Managing the WWE champion could prove to be beneficial to both their careers. Turn her heel and put her with Chris Jericho, to add even more to his current battles with John Cena. Any of these angles could be made believable if the company would only invest a little more time and energy into her career. Either the creative team has run out of ideas, or they simply do not care enough about the women in the company to give them more permanent storylines to work with. Judging by the constant rate at which women enter and leave the company, the latter seems to be truer. My only hope is that they see which women are loyal to the company - like Stacy - and that they give them something serious to work with. |
